Looking ahead...

The 2012 Conference will be in Lancaster

Tuesday July 24th - Thursday July 26th

This year’s Conference will be our first visit to the historically significant city of Lancaster. Rail links to Lancaster from around the country are excellent and the university, which is a little south of the city, may be reached either by bus or taxi from the train station. The college itself has ample parking.

Conference
The Conference begins on Tuesday 24th July with registration from 2.00 pm and tea at 3.45 pm. It concludes with lunch on Thursday 26th July. The accommodation this year is all en-suite with single and twin-bedded rooms available. The Conference Pack, including the Conference Programme, a list of those attending, and other papers, will be sent out at the beginning of July. Our Chaplain this year is Alan Gaunt. Our Festival of Hymns will take place in Trinity United Reformed Church, High Street, Lancaster, a delightful Georgian Chapel with some Victorian additons, where Revd George Burder, not entirely insignificant with regard to hymnody, was ordained and served his first ministry. The commentators will be Robert and Jenny Canham, the conductor, Christine Medd, with Ian Sharp, our Executive President, as organist.

Among the Conference Speakers:
Ian Bradley on ‘Trust in God and Onward, Christian Soldiers– the hymn tunes of Arthur Sullivan’
Ken Bowden on ‘A look at the hymns and tunes of Lancashire’
Martin Ellis on‘Singing the Faith – the new Methodist Hymn Book’
Gordon Taylor on 'William Booth, the devil's music and revival hymns'
There will also be a presentation by The Gladly Solemn Sound, a West Gallery music group based in Lancaster. On Wednesday afternoon there will be an outing which we hope will include both the Roman Catholic Cathedral and Lancaster Priory.

Cost
The cost for residents will be £220.00 and for day-visitors for the entire conference £105.00, or charged pro-rata according to length of stay and events on each particular day (see form). Accommodation for additional nights either side of the conference is available: Bed and Breakfast £42.00 per person. Dinner is an additional £23.40. However, there are alternative eating places on the campus and, of course, in the city. When booking please state your requirements clearly.
